Team Talk: Meet Amanda!
Welcome to Team Talk, our series where we chat with the incredible people that help make Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin such a special and important place for the youth in our community. Today we’re connecting with Amanda S, our Technology Specialist.
Let’s get to know Amanda!
How long have you worked for Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin?
I started in late September 2020, so almost 9 months now.
Describe your job in 1-2 sentences in your own words.
I manage all aspects of the Organization's information technology. I provide customer service and ticket support including ongoing technical support for networking, hardware and software issues and general questions.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the ability to be innovative, fix and improve things. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to work out a problem and then finally solve it!
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I LOVE to read so you can usually find me in a cozy spot with a book. I also like to go to the beach, refurbish furniture, build computers, and play old school video games (Tetris, Donkey Kong and Dr. Mario are the best!)
What's a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I was on the Badminton team in high school and I was pretty good!
What do love about living in Sonoma County?
I love it's proximity to the coast and to the redwoods, wine tasting, vineyards in the fall, the pastoral scenery (especially after it rains and everything is green) and it's foggy mornings.
What was your childhood dream job?
I wanted to be an Astronomer because I love learning about space. I quickly realized that you needed to know A LOT of math to be an Astronomer and decided it was not for me because math is hard.
What did you love about being a kid?
Running outside barefoot, climbing trees and building secret forts.
What's your favorite quote?
"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." - Maya Angelou
What is an ability you wish you had?
I've always kinda wished that I could download information like in the Matrix. Like if one day I wanted to know how to fly a plane, it would take seconds to download into my brain and there ya go!
