Club Impact: Isabelle and Saying Goodbye
On our last day of Distance Learning Club at Monroe Elementary, we held a scavenger hunt outside. We wanted our Members to spend time together before returning to their regular schools. Each cohort made their own symbols and hid them all around the playground. Some of the kids who don't usually engage and pretend to be disinterested were really enthusiastic and involved.
One Member, Isabelle, took an active role in leading her whole group and cheering for other Members. Usually, Isabelle stands off to the side or declines to participate. As the activity and Club day ended, we were surprised to see an outpouring of emotion! Isabelle & the other Members in her group were tearfully reflecting on how meaningful their Club Cohort was this year.
At pick up, Isabelle’s parents commented that our Distance Learning Club saved their jobs, and said the Club has changed Isabelle’s perspective on school.
Even though Isabelle pretended like the Club didn’t mean that much to her, we were heartened to learn how much it helped her thrive in a difficult year. We are grateful to have supported Isabelle, her family, and others through our Distance Learning Clubs!
