Scarecrows on the Plaza Helps Club Kids

The fifth annual Healdsburg scarecrow festival is kicking off and Healdsburg businesses, community groups, schools, clubs and individuals are once again invited and encouraged to participate. All proceeds from sponsorships, registration, and bidding will help kids through the programing and work of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin (The Clubs).

“The Clubs is proud to host Scarecrows on the Plaza again this year," said CEO Jennifer Weiss. "The event aligns perfectly with our commitment to community engagement and supporting young people. I’m excited to see the creativity and enthusiasm our community brings to this fun and inspiring event.”

This annual event first started during the pandemic and has continued to bring together and delight the Healdsburg community while also supporting a local nonprofit.

“When the Creative Leadership Team was formed by the City of Healdsburg in late 2019, our mission was to establish an art and culture master plan,” said Marcy Frank, CLT member. “The scarecrow festival was created in 2020 during the height of Covid, and it provided a much-needed way for our community to safely connect through creative expression. One of the goals of the festival has always been to fund a local nonprofit, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin was chosen this year due to their strong commitment to expanding opportunities for children.”

The Boys & Girls Clubhouse in Healdsburg has a long history in the community and has served thousands of Healdsburg youth over its 75+ years. Located at 555 Piper Street, the Clubhouse will soon undergo reconstruction to better serve kids.

Registration to build a scarecrow is now open. Sponsorship opportunities begin at $500 and registration fees are $25 (individuals and nonprofits) and $100 for businesses. Once registered, information and tips on building scarecrows will be provided.

All registered scarecrows will be placed around the Healdsburg Plaza so the community can enjoy and bid on them. Bidding for the scarecrows will begin October 4 and end on October 20.
