Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin Was Her “Village”

Working mother turns to Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin to support her daughters and nurture her career

Being a working mom comes with challenges – especially balancing professional and personal responsibilities.

Mishel is a working mother who built a successful career to become the Chief Administrative & Risk Officer at Redwood Credit Union. Mishel is also a former Club parent.

When her two girls were still toddlers, she pursued a full-time career. The struggle to balance the needs of work and family was ever present. It took a whole “village” to raise happy and healthy children, while also achieving her goals and dreams.

That support system included Boys & Girls Clubs!

Mishel's daughters loved the Club! They had lots of friends and made many new ones there as well. They loved the activities and benefited from the homework help. By the time Mishel picked up her girls after work, it was a race to get home, have dinner, take baths, and get ready for bedtime. Completing their homework at the Club reinforced positive study habits and time management for the entire family.

Knowing that her children’s needs were met at the Club created a strong sense of security that allowed Mishel to continue to pursue her career goals and grow as a leader. It gave her the time and ability to focus on her team at Redwood Credit Union and continue to serve the community.

Her girls are now successful adults, and she believes Boys & Girls Club helped them get there.

Every day, the Clubs continue to make a difference for working families. Because of the Clubs, parents have peace of mind that their children are in a supportive environment that helps the entire family thrive.
