Storytime with Sparkles Brings Books to Life for Club Kids

For the past month, TK and Kindergarten members at McNear have been lucky enough to experience Storytime with Sparkles, a special enrichment program led by longtime Club staffer Helen.

Each week, Helen gathered the kids for a lively story followed by a hands-on activity to bring the story to life. Along the way, members earned stars for participating and, after four weeks of storytime fun, they got to pick a special prize from the treasure chest—making reading feel even more rewarding.

The final session was a celebration all its own. Helen introduced the always-popular Chicken Dance, filling the room with laughter and movement. She also revisited three favorite books from the month, amazed at how much the kids remembered. One last trip to the treasure chest wrapped up the month on a high note.

Helen first launched Storytime with Sparkles at Lucchesi Park in January, then spent February at McNear, and is now heading to McDowell to spark imagination with a whole new group of kids. While she’ll miss the McNear crew, she’s excited to keep the stories—and the fun—going at every Club she visits.

Stay tuned for more Sparkles updates as this traveling storytime continues to bring creativity, laughter, and a love of reading to Club members all across Sonoma-Marin.
