National BGC Week

During the week of June 21-25 we celebrated the resilience of kids with National Boys & Girls Club Week. Many of the week’s activities focused on how we do Whatever it Takes to support Members with safe places, academic support, workforce readiness, and health & wellness programs.

MONDAY: WHATEVER IT TAKES TO HELP KIDS STAY ON TRACK
Today, we focused on how we're using summer camp to help kids get back on track after a most unusual school year. From 'Literacy Blocks' of reading and journal writing time, to ‘Brain Gain' activities like creating Positivity Boards and Superhero Pictionary, we have many programs aimed at keeping our Members' minds active and helping them make strides academically over summer.

TUESDAY: WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MENTOR TOMORROW’S LEADERS
At our Summer Camps, the Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed to help our middle school Campers develop leadership skills through hands-on work experience. Through the CIT program, they will have the opportunity to develop positive personal goals, gain valuable volunteer hours, and develop a sense of ownership, belonging and responsibility to their community and Club. CITs work side-by-side with our Camp Counselors facilitating activities and assisting with supervision of youth ages 6-12 years old.

WEDNESDAY: WHATEVER IT TAKES TO SUPPORT HEALTH & WELLNESS
"How are you feeling?"

It's one of the most important questions we ask our Members each day. As part of our commitment to promote physical and mental well-being among our Members, we use tools like the Zones of Regulation to nurture mindfulness and emotional health. Today, our Campers also spent some time practicing meditation and yoga.

THURSDAY: WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BE RESILIENT
If the past year showed us anything it's that our Club kids can overcome challenges to achieve great things. Today, they proved it over and over again as they rocked our Camp obstacle courses!

FRIDAY: WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BUILD GREAT FUTURES
We closed out 2021 Boys & Girls Club Week with SUPER celebrations at our Camps across Sonoma County! Huge shout out to our amazing staff for going above and beyond every day to do Whatever It Takes to Build Great Futures.
