Diego Leon, the Lion

In middle school, my home was deemed unsafe. My parents were in a heated divorce and I was in the eye of the storm. I began failing all my classes and became a regular in the principal’s office. One day, after a school visit, CPS placed me in a children’s home to await a custody hearing. I was at the mercy of a system I didn’t understand as I waited for strangers to determine MY future.

Thankfully, I had Club. I knew I could count on Club for a safe space away from the chaos. And at Club, they knew me as Diego Leon, the Lion. Not just a court number.

Because of Club support, I am reaching for my great future ahead. Last month I graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College with a 3.9GPA and I will continue my education at San Diego State in the fall. The best part of the story… I am now a Program Director at the Boys & Girls Club where I can help little lions like me ignite their passion, unlock their potential, and inspire their great future.
