Congressman Mike Thompson Secures $4M For New Roseland Boys & Girls Club Facility

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson presented a $4 million check Friday to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Marin for the Roseland Boys & Girls Club Center. Thompson secured the funding in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill.

"Providing children in our community with a safe and secure place to learn, grow, and connect with other kids is vital to their health and well-being," Thompson said. "The Boys & Girls Club will help the Roseland community come together and provide new opportunities for educational advancement. I am proud to have secured this funding, and I look forward to seeing the impact the Club will have the lives of all who utilize its services."

The newly constructed Boys & Girls Club is expected to open this spring. It will bring academic and enrichment programs to thousands of Roseland youth from transitional kindergarten through high school, according to a news release. Members will join as preschoolers receiving early learning skills and leave at age 18 with a plan for their future; demonstrating good character, a healthy lifestyle, academic success, and creative expression.

The new facility in Roseland will be a resource for parents to take their kids to learn and engage in a safe environment. The club will also serve adult community members through jobs programs, English classes and community-driven programming.

"We are incredibly grateful for the Congressman’s dedication to the most vulnerable youth in our community," said Jennifer Weiss, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Marin. "When our new flagship clubhouse opens in the Spring, we will serve 2,500 youth and families in Roseland. This has been our dream for 15 years. Together, the Clubs and the Congressman share a vision of a thriving Roseland and this community center helps us bring that to life."
